Cross River State Government says plans are underway to re-launch the State owned Radio/Television broadcasting station: Cross River Broadcasting Corporation, to bring it up to speed to meet contemporary trends in the industry.
Commissioner for information and Orientation, Comrade Asu Okang, disclosed this in Calabar, during an on-the-spot inspection of facilities at the Corporation.
Comrade Okang hinted that the re-launched Radio/Television station, which will be named “CRBC Plus”, will be home to modern radio and television broadcast equipments and consequently reduce the operational running cost and abysmal performance that beclouded the old station in recent times.
He lamented that having produced some of the best staff, the Corporation had in the years back failed to capitalize on its long monopoly of the sector in the State, allowing newly established privately owned stations to dominate the air waves.
The Information and Orientation Commissioner further charged management and staff of the Corporation to brace up for the new challenge and urged them to work hard to improve content that would enable the Corporation remain competitive.
“We cannot have a digital Governor and yet have an analog moribund CRBC. We are introducing cost effective radio transmitters and some high definition television cameras”.
“The OB Van must get back to work. From now henceforth, all State Executive Council meetings must be reported live”, Comrade Okang remarked.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Orientation, Dr. Aye Henshaw applauded Comrade Okang for his visionary leadership and proactive disposition that has already given the State Information Sector a new look within a short time.
Responding, the Acting General Manager of the Corporation, Mr. Eniang Ndem expressed confidence that with Comrade Okang as Commissioner for Information and Orientation, CRBC Plus will be hugely successful.
The Commissioner’s entourage was made up of the General Manager of the Cross River State Newspaper Corporation, Mr. Emmanuel Akpong; the State Director of Information, Mrs. Pauline Eba; the Director of Public Relations, Mr. Michael Nyajor; the Government Printer, Comrade John Ushie; the Director of Administration of Cross River Signage and Advertising Agency (CRISAA), Mr. Samuel Tete; the Director of Orientation, Mrs. Roseline Irek; the Director Archives and Documentation, Mr. Effiong Okon, amongst others.
