The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams, has commended Nigerians for their courage, resilience and support in the past year, assuring that 2020 will bring in greater achievements by all tiers of government.
The Speaker’s commendation was contained in his New Year message released in Calabar on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Hope Obeten.
According to Williams, in spite of the present economic challenges facing the country, the past year witnessed lots of achievements particularly in Cross River State, with the massive industrialization drive of the current administration, improved welfare for its civil servants and enhanced standard of living for the citizens.
According to the Speaker, with the recent release of the 2020 budget proposal by Governor Ben Ayade which was just passed yesterday, 31st December in line with the Cross River State House of Assembly commitment to pass the state budget before the next appropriation year, there is hope.
The Speaker said the priority given to capital expenditure ahead of recurrent expenditure in the State budget are clear confirmation that the state is in a hurry for economic development.
He stated further that “There are still challenges but I want to assure you that government at all levels will not relent in putting in place measures, programmes, projects and policies that will enhance the welfare of our people in our aim to continue to improve their standard of living.
“While we remain united in our resolve to make Cross Riverians attain greater heights, we will continue to seek for your support, prayers, cooperation and understanding for this administration especially in the New Year, I wish you all a prosperous and fulfilling year.”
