The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Cross River state has said that it will not partake in the Saturday 30th May 2020 local government elections slated by State Independent Electoral Commission, SIEC.
According to an undated letter signed by Sir John Ochala the state chair of the APC, the letter said to give a 2/3 days notice for an election of that magnitude is ‘not only ridiculous but very irresponsible’.

The APC has said she is in court already with the SIEC and the State Government to compel them to obey existing laws in respect of the elections.
Meanwhile, social commentator Princewill Odidi has frowned at the short notice to the elections slated by SIEC. According to Odidi, ‘I think 7 days or 5 working days is too short a time from the release of elections memo to its conduct date. Happening at a time travels nationwide is still restricted. Losers may challenge this breach in court and upturn the outcome.
‘Why not give sufficient notice, allow time for campaign and get proper logistics in place? Why the rush and stand the chance of getting a court of law cancel the entire process and render waste the entire effort and money spent. Why create a perfect opportunity for the opposition to stand on tomorrow and upturn all the efforts? Except if all parties have agreed to this timelines, I foresee future disputes. Make hay while the sun shines’.
