“It is all about secondary school children precisely. Catching them young, most of them have the ability to run but were not given the opportunity, so the foundation decided to create the avenue by using the World AIDS Day as a platform in bringing them together. We had the race yesterday (Monday) where we have our winners, as you can see, trophies have been presented to each of the schools that won, and we won’t stop at that, we are also going to present cash prizes of N30,000, N20,000 and N15,000 to first, second and third male and female categories.

The Quarter Marathon Race is christened after the first lady of Cross River State because her office is directly in charge of HIV AIDS programme most especially the World AIDS Day.

She also called on other Doctors to borrow a leaf from what Dr. Okwoche has done, noting that outside the medicine practice, they can still serve humanity.

Okekemba stated, “I will say I am wowed! That is the world for it, because when I see colleagues going outside the box to make impact in life, impacts that are really positive that touches a lot of life, he is a medical doctor and this is the first time I am seeing this where a medical doctor goes out of the medical profession to make impact in the lives of these little ones and you know these young people, they are just a reservoir of so much, they just need someone to tap on it and direct them on where to go and he is doing so well to capture them, bring out their talent.

“We are going to support him, work with him, like we said, we are young doctor’s forum, like these ones in the secondary schools, we really want to see medical students that will make impacts and will be like mentor to them.” She assured.

Also, Dr. Helen Unuareokpa commended the good work of the foundation saying, “I have known Doctor Okwoche for quite some times and I know he is into sport empowerment for young people trying to encourage them to develop their sport abilities. This programme he is doing now is one of the many other ones he has done over the years, he does it ones every year and I really commend what he is doing. I only asked that the government and other individuals and companies collaborate with him in funding the project so that it will have a higher coverage.” She appealed.
