It has been confirmed that the Obong of Calabar, Natural Ruler and Grand Partriach of the Efik, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, did not issue the press statement stating that the Cross River Traditional Rulers Council has decided to invoke traditional sanctions against criminals in the state, a news item making the rounds on main stream media houses and new media news facilities in the state NEGROIDHAVEN can report authoritatively.

Such allegations, it was gathered, emanates from rumour mills and mischief makers who aim at creating an unnecessary rift between the reverred tradition national stool and the State Government.

The Chair of the Cross River Traditional Rulers Council, CTRC, His Royal Highness Etim Okon Edet, resolved the controversy surrounding the issuance of the now controversial press statement at the beginning of this week on the Council going spiritual with combating criminality and criminals in the state.

L-R: Obong of Calabar Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V and Chair of Cross River Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Etim Okon Edet

HRH Edet who doubles as the Paramount Ruler of Bakassi local government area said that it is not the Obong of Calabar, Natural Ruler and Grand Partriach of the Efik, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V who issued that statement, but he as Chair of the Council did. He added that there is nothing as Efik Traditional Rulers Council neither is the Cross River Traditional Rulers Council owned by the Efik. He queried the rationale behind reading a publication on a headed letter clearly describing the source and authority of an issue and then proceed to misrepresent the source and authority with glaring evidence to the contrary.

HRH Edet informed that the State Traditional Rulers Council has commenced invoking spiritual powers against crime and criminality as it recently promised to. He said they were at Bakassi and Akpabuyo LGAs yesterday. That their exercise will continue today.
