Nigeria’s music mastro, Rekaado Bank’s piece, Ozumba Mbadiwe, has been appraised as a work of art.

This opinion is held by Nigerian public affairs analyst with keen interest in entertainment, Simon Utsu.

Utsu commended the rhythm, lyrics, and the choice of the title of the piece.

According to him, ‘from the choice of title, to the rhythm, to the lyrics. Anytime its played on radio, my ears are fixed. The title evokes nostalgia for those of us who plied that Ozumba Mbadiwe route for several years. The rhythm is about the best amapiano sound I’ve heard.

‘Nigerian musicians are good –they take a sound from another country/continent and perfect it. Amapiano was born in South Africa and perfected by Nigerian artists. Same way Mr Eazi brought the ghanaian sound some five years ago and Nigerian musicians made it go global.

‘Rekaado also injected activism into the song via the lyrics as he immortalised the 2020 Lekki tollgate protesters. It’s my Nigerian song of the quarter already.’
