2023: SUGBWi frowns at attack against Emana Duke-Amahwe over Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Fed Constituency

A civil society group has frowned at the physical attack on a female contender for the Akpabuyo, Bakassi, Calabar South Federal Constituency NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed.

Support for Girls, Boys and Women Initiative, SUGBWi an organisation keen about gender and social inclusion issues with head office in Calabar the Cross River state capital metropolis has registered its displeasure to the news of the physical attack on Lady Emana Duke Ambrose-Amahwe and her campaign team on Friday in Ekpri Ikot Ene in Akpabuyo.

The Executive Director of SUGBWi, Hon. Grace Bassey, said the said violent attack was a form of intimidation against women venturing into politics. While suing for peace as a sine qua non for social development, Hon. Bassey said that women should be given a chance to venture into political leadership roles.

Her words, ‘SUGBWi condemns the attack of a female aspirant in the person of Lady Emana Duke-Amawhe on her visit to Akpabuyo for official declaration to contest for the position of Federal House of Representatives.

‘Violence and intimidation against women in politics and leadership positions is condemnable and should be discouraged at all levels.

‘We should learn to encourage women by giving them a chance.

‘Also in any society without Peace there is no development’, she concluded.

Recall that NEGROIDHAVEN had reported about the setback Lady Emana Duke Ambrose-Amahwe’s New Dawn campaign faced as hoodlums attacked both her and her political campaign in Ikot Ekpri Ene in Akpabuyo LGA on Friday.
