As continuation of the series I started yesterday about brief lessons to learn from APC rumoured governorship aspirants, today, I want to look at another set of aspirants; Engr. Ben Akak and Ndem Bassey.

Akak, just like Asuquo Ekpenyong was not in the picture of Cross River politics about seven years ago. Nobody could have imagined that his name will be mentioned prominently as it is today when discussing the next Governor of Cross River.

He is one of the few rumoured to be in the race that understands how to be hungry and how to have enough to even give to others. This is because he has seen poverty like most Cross Riverians and God has now decided to smile at him. However, despite his change of status, Akak has remained very humble and dedicated to the works of God.

Not so many young people in our society today will remain as humble as him or serve God and humanity the way this young leader has if fortune smile at them as him. Moreover, he has always be a huge blessing to so many others. Some may say his philanthropism is because of his rumoured governorship ambition, but if he doesn’t win, will he reclaim all all he has done for people?

Akak’s life is worth understudying to understand how to remain humble even in affluence and how to serve God and people with your resources. Undoubtedly, the biggest things working for him more in his rumoured ambition is his investment in the gospel and humanity. Like I always say, don’t joke with a man that carries the grace.

Arch Ndem Bassey

This name is a household name in Cross River politics. From 1999 till date, this successful entrepreneur has succeeded in keeping himself very relevant in the political space even though he’s not been directly involved in government in terms of holding positions for a very long time.

Reputed to be behind modern Cross River design, his love for his culture and investment in promoting same within and outside the country has endeared him to many. Nothing is more important about a people than their culture. He’s without doubt one of APC’s rumoured governorship aspirants with the highest street credibility.

In Cross River, because of our poor nature, we seem to worship people in government so much. But for Bassey who has not been in government for only God knows when to enjoy the followership he enjoys, then there’s something he’s doing differently to get people’s loyalty the way he has.

Maybe, younger people can look at him and learn one or two things to help them in their growth and grooming processes.
