On Friday 31st March Nigeria’s electoral umpire issued certificates of return Cross River state governor-elect Bassey Edet Otu, his running mate, Rt Hon. Peter Odey and the 25 members state House of Assembly NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed.
The event took place in Calabar the state capital metropolis in the morning at the state secretariat of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC declared Prince Otu, the winner of the 18th March, guber election in the state.
Prof. Gabriel Yomeri the INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the state did the presentation to the governor-elect and his deputy and also presented the certificate to twenty-five state Assembly members.
Shortly after receiving the the certificate the governor-elect, Otu assured the audience that he will keep to his electoral promises he made during campaigns.
‘We thank you for finding us worthy to steer the affairs of the state in the next four years to come, I assure you that we will do our best to ensure that we fulfil all of our campaign promises.
‘I want to tell you that we’ve accepted the mandate you gave to us, however, I want to urge you to be watchful over us by encouraging us where we do right and drawing our attention where we go astray,’ he said.
The state chairman of the rulling All progressives Congress (APC) Alphonsus Ogar Eba Esq, JP has congratulated the Governor-elect, Otu and all APC candidates on their victories in the 25th February and 18th March general elections in Cross River.
His statements of reads: ‘Although the last general election was tough, at the end the will of the people prevailed and I must thank the Independent National Electoral Commissioner, INEC for doing the right thing in ensuring that the true results that emanated from the units were duly collated.
‘On behalf of my immediate family and political associates, I congratulate my dear brother and friend, Senator Prince Bassey Otu on his well deserved victory in the just concluded governorship Election and all our candidates.
‘I also congratulate our great party the All progressives Congress APC in Cross River State and all our teeming supporters nationwide for this well deserved victory.
‘From the margin of victory it is safe to say that power indeed belongs to the people and they decide whom to freely give it to,’ he concluded.
