C’River Governor Charges New Court of Appeal Justice to Uphold Integrity and Fairness

Abuja – Prince Bassey Otu, the Governor of Cross River State, has urged the recently appointed Justice of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Jane Inyang, JCA, to fulfill her role with compassion, integrity, and fairness NEGROIDHAVEN can report.

Governor Otu, speaking through his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, conveyed his joy during the reception following the swearing-in of Hon. Justice Jane Inyang, JCA. He praised her distinguished career and dedication to her duties while on the Federal High Court Bench. Although the Governor couldn’t attend the event, Deputy Governor Odey announced plans to host a reception in Justice Inyang’s honor in Calabar.

Odey emphasized the importance of conducting affairs with the fear of God, highlighting the influential role lawyers play in society. Their conduct, he noted, sets an example that society observes and often emulates.

In his address, Justice Emmanuel Agim, JSC, offered guidance to Justice Inyang, urging her to prioritize justice and righteousness in her interactions with litigants. He stressed that God’s promotion was more valuable and rewarding than any wealth acquired through compromising justice. Sharing personal experiences, Justice Agim encouraged Justice Inyang to be diligent and deliver judgments that would be widely read and discussed within the legal community.

Hon. Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, commended Justice Inyang’s character, having worked alongside her from her early days on the bench. He viewed her elevation as a lesson for those who underestimate the capabilities of younger colleagues. He expressed pride in having mentored her to achieve such a distinguished position.

Responding to the well-wishing and advice, Justice Jane Inyang, JCA, expressed her deep appreciation for the overwhelming support and the opportunity to serve. She pledged not to disappoint those who had placed their trust in her.

Justice Inyang, a native of Ikoneto in Odukpani Local Government Area, is the only Cross Riverian among eight Justices appointed to the Court of Appeal on September 20, 2023. She has served as a Federal High Court judge since 2015, achieving numerous high-profile convictions in various jurisdictions, including Bayelsa, Kano, and Delta.

The Deputy Governor was joined by Senator Eteng Jones Williams and Rt. Hon. John Gaul Lebo at the event, which also attracted legal luminaries, Attorneys-General from various states, and other distinguished personalities.
