Empowering the Future: Cross River’s STEM Project Transforms Young Minds

The Rev Eyoanwan Otu Girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) project, spearheaded by the Wife of the Governor of Cross River, has made significant strides in empowering young girls with essential skills for the future NEGROIDHAVEN can report.

The initiative, which has already successfully trained over 1000 secondary school girls in Calabar, recently extended its reach to Ugep and Obudu, actively engaging and empowering over 1100 additional young girls. The project focuses on providing foundational knowledge in basic computing, gaming, and robotics, targeting girls in SS1 to SS3.

The two-week intensive training in Ugep at the Cross River Institute of Management and Technology has not only sparked a keen interest in STEM topics but has also laid a robust foundation for the girls to pursue future careers in these crucial fields. Mr. Oku O. Oku, who represented Her Excellency at the Ugep center, commended the participants for their skills and quick learning abilities.

“STEM is the future, and Her Excellency is determined to ensure that every Cross River child is given an opportunity to excel and reach their full potentials,” emphasized Mr. Oku. He reiterated the government’s commitment, led by Governor Bassey Otu, to support education, youth development, and general welfare.

Mr. Oyo Effiom of Guru Foundation, a key facilitator in the project, shared words of encouragement for the girls, teachers, and parents involved. The enthusiasm displayed by the participants has not only impressed the organizers but also garnered appreciation from parents who expressed gratitude and prayers for the Governor and his wife.

The STEM project, driven by the passion and focus of the Governor’s wife, is set to expand its reach across Cross River State in 2024. As technology continues to shape the future, initiatives like these play a crucial role in preparing the next generation for the evolving job landscape.
