Biase/Obanliku/Yala Rerun-Elections: Movement Restricted by CRSG

In anticipation of the rerun elections scheduled for February 3, 2024, the Office of the State Security Adviser to the Governor of Cross River state has announced comprehensive security measures, including movement restrictions, for residents of Biase, Obanliku, and Yala Local Government Areas (LGAs) NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed.

Major General Okoi Ubi Obono (Rtd), the Senior Special Adviser on Security, emphasized the need for a secure and orderly electoral process. He stated via a recent press release, “In view of the rerun elections, we have implemented strategic measures to ensure the safety and integrity of the voting process in Biase, Obanliku, and Yala LGAs.”

During the voting hours, from 6 am to 2 pm, vehicular movement will be restricted in the mentioned local government areas. Additionally, the use of motorcycles is strictly prohibited throughout the electoral exercise. This decision aims to prevent any untoward incidents and facilitate the smooth conduct of the rerun elections.

General Obono further cautioned individuals not directly involved in the electoral process, including those on essential duties, media personnel, and security officials, to avoid polling units during the election hours. Markets in the affected LGAs are also instructed not to open before the specified timeframe on Election Day.

The Senior Special Adviser on Security sternly warned, “Those who contravene these directives will face the full wrath of the law. It is imperative for the public to comply with these measures to ensure a peaceful and successful rerun-election.”
