7th Bakassi Legislative Assembly Disowns Viral Report on Statewide Councillors’ Revolt

The 7th Bakassi Legislative Assembly has distanced itself from a viral report alleging that all 196 councillors across Cross River State are preparing to revolt over welfare concerns, political neglect and administrative manipulation NEGROIDHAVEN can say.

In a disclaimer issued on Wednesday by the Leader of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Grace Bassey, the lawmakers said they were neither the source of the report nor connected to any mobilisation for confrontation with the state government.

“The attention of the 7th Bakassi Legislative Assembly has been drawn to a circulating report alleging that all 196 councillors in Cross River State are set to revolt. We categorically state that the 7th Bakassi Legislative Assembly is not part of nor associated with the said report,” the statement read.

The Assembly stressed that it had not authorised, endorsed or taken part in any action or communication designed to create tension or misunderstanding between councillors and the state government. It described itself as a responsible legislative body committed to peace, stability and constructive engagement.

Rt. Hon. Bassey acknowledged that, like every institution, the Assembly continues to identify areas for improvement but maintained that its approach remains rooted in cooperation rather than confrontation.

The lawmakers used the opportunity to appreciate the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, for the recent increment in legislative votes, which they said has strengthened their capacity to serve constituents. They described the gesture as a reflection of the governor’s commitment to grassroots governance.

Reaffirming their loyalty to the state government, the Assembly expressed optimism that ongoing engagements with relevant authorities would lead to positive outcomes for councillors across the state.
