Cross River born Public Affairs Analyst, Prince Thomas Abi Jr. has expressed sadness over the state government's abandonment of the Ogoja Township Stadium.

"On the 26 of March, 2016, I went to the Ogoja township stadium for the Hon Peter Odey football competition for students under 18 and what immediately caught my attention was the dilapidated nature of the Ogoja Township Stadium, without mincing words, the stadium is now a dump-site where people who live around dumb their refuse".

He described the situation as very unfortunate stating that the facilities at the stadium was a shadow of itself.

"The shade for the stadium is nothing to write home about. The roof is torn, shattered and licking. The fence is broken. The gate is wide open with refuse greeting you on entering the premises".

Prince Abi, also stated that he understands that the Cross River State government had embarked on the building of a new stadium along the Okuku road but the project had long been abandoned.

"I do understand that Cross River State government embarked on the building of a new stadium at Okuku road. But the truth be told, the project has long been abandoned and no one knows the fate of the abandoned project as I speak".

He further reiterated that the stadium had the capacity to promote the socio-economic activities of the people of the area and that the government must not allow the stadium to be a shadow of itself. While calling on the Commissioner for Sports, Comrade Asu Okang to immediately inspect the abandoned stadium project and how the stadium can be revived.
