In a recent report titled: 'Chief Of Naval Staff Faces Sack For Rejecting Illegal Recruitment List From Mamman Daura', by the online news website, Hope for Nigeria, Ugep, Cross River-born Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, is under serious pressure to be laid off as service chief for allegedly refusing to play the script of some power centres in the presidency in respect of recruitment into the Nigerian Navy.

According to the website, the CNS 'is under fire from key members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s kitchen cabinet led by the president’s nephew, Mamman Daura for refusing to accept a list containing names of youths from Northwest and Northeast penciled down for recruitment into Nigerian Navy through the backdoor'.

The story has it that CNS Ibok expressly refused to illegally recruit the names listed to him and sent from Daura citing recruitment by merit. This must have infuriated the President’s relative. However, CNS Ibok may be attempting to stall the saga that greeted similar incidents at the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian Prison Service, and the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

The degree of nepotism and cronyism in the present federal government is alarming. This may not be the change Nigerians voted for in the 2015 general elections.
