The erstwhile Governor of Sokoto State,  Attahiru Bafarawa has fulfilled his promise to give 30 million naira as his own way of sympathising with traders who lost their valuables during the recent fire outbreak in the state.

You would recall that on July 24th, there was a fire outbreak in Sokoto old market which razed down shops, goods and properties of owners.

NHB garnered that the former Governor has fulfilled his  promise to the victims of the Fire.

He delivered a whopping sum of 30 million naira to the traders through the state's PDP Chairman, Ibrahim Milgoma.

This supposed 'philanthropic' gesture raised mixed feelings of commendation by some as well as condemnation by others who saw beyond such gestures and interpreted it as having a political undertone.!

One critic argued that the former Governor's action is based on self interest.

According to one Mr James, a social critic, he alleged that,
" ..such enormous amount of money disbursed as 'charity' may have been part of one state project or the other which must have been cornered to private pockets".

Despite such criticism, the recipients of the cash, cared less as they were filled with Joy and thanked the Governor for his goodwill and financial aide.
