It's no more news that the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Professor Ben Ayade has awarded the contract for the dualisation of Mfom-Yala-Bekwarra-Obanlikwu-Obudu road. While this initiative is commendable there seem to be a murky dimension to the project.

Generally, notable critics have expressed reservations about the contract. For instance, former Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategy and National Contact, Mr Ray Ugba Morphy recently prayed that the contract should not just end at awarding stage, that it should be completed. According to the outspoken former aide to the Governor, Sermatek and Leophina where examples of construction firms which did a shabby job in the state but still made away with the full money awarded for the contract.

In this publication I wish to draw attention of the reader to some perceived shady deal in the Mfom-Yala-Bekwarra-Obanlikwu-Obudu dualisation construction initiative of the CRSG. An anonymous Cross Riverian has observed that the contractor to the project is 'unknown'. Implying that they may not have the reputation for handling such jobs. He specifically inquired about the road constructions history of this company? 'Sydney Construction Lagos' is the name and the consultant is 'Sino Infrastructures Ltd' located in State Housing Estate, Calabar. Hear his reservation:

'The more we look, the NOTHING we see!I Just dey waka pass the contractor's name wei I neva hear for my life before. Can this UNKNOWN company handle a dual carriage way of that magnitude? What's the company's history in road constructions in Nigeria?God save CRS!', this anonymous critic said.

Will Sydney Construction Lagos join the ranks of Sermatek and Leophina? Why wasn't this job awarded to Julius Berger? Couldn't they win the contract bid process?
