The 8th National Assembly are putting in their best in area of oversight functions to enhance and ensure good governance in the country.
Addressing some leaders of his constituency during a weekend visit from Abuja, Senator Gershom Bassey, Senator representing Cross River Southern Senatorial District at the National Assembly assured his people that,
'As a Lawmaker, he is actively taking part in oversight functions to lobby and get projects captured in the budget from his initiatives and other lawmakers from the state that would benefit his people. We don't sleep in Abuja as some may think, we monitor the projects from the moment that we ensured that they have been accommodated in the budget, you should know that the procurement and execution shift to the Executive arm of Government.
'Our role is just to monitor and make sure the project is completed and that the essence of oversight functions for performance deliberations and inspection', he said.
On the 10th of November 2016, Senator Gershom Bassey and other Senators who are members of the Senate committee on Defence were at Defence Headquarters, Abuja for brief session with the Chief of Defence Staff, Major – General Gabriel Olonishakin on budget performance.
