WISE UP CROSS RIVER: Medical Women Association of Nigeria Boost Moral of Campaign against HIV/AIDS

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in collaboration with Mediatrix Development Foundation (MDF), the pet project of Her Excellency Dr Linda Ayade, wife of Cross River State Governor, and other partners like Cross River State Ministry of Health under the indefatigable leadership of Dr Inyang Asibong, Dr Betta Edu’s Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, CUSO, etc embarked on a 30 day campaign against HIV/AIDS labeled Wise Up Cross River. 
This campaign which flagged off on 1st December advocates for sexual abstinence before marriage, use of contraceptives, free HIV testing, free counseling, education on use of contraceptives, free donations, etc. It has a dedicated centre at the Christmas Village, Calabar Municipality where it performs all its activities. This Centre is rightly called Wise Up Zone.

Today, 20 December The WiseUp Zone played host to the President of Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Cross River Chapter Dr. Nchewi Ani and her team of medical personnel.
As part of their contributions, they rendered services in three shifts: morning, afternoon and evening with over fifteen members present. The professional body carried out counseling, education and consultations of minor illnesses like cough, urinary tract infections, deworming, upper respiratory infections etc.

They brought consumables like  Antibiotics, antimalarial, antiretrovirals, oral contraceptives and injectibles. They also gave out raffle draws and prizes such as buckets, hand fans and bags, toilet papers, etc.
The President stated that MWAN is happy to collaborate with UNFPA, MDF and other MDAs to support the Wise Up Campaign, to ensure Cross River youths know their HIV status.
She stated that MWAN is also here in solidarity with SACA, CRSPHCDA, CRMOH, ECEWS, EVA etc in continuation with the World AIDSDay.
In her exact words she advised, ‘Stay healthy, use condom if you cannot abstain. However, we preach prevention and prevention is the ultimate cure to the HIV scourge’.
