Arrangement has reached its crescendo by the University of Calabar to partner Asiukpo Ultra–modern Radiotherapy studio to train students in the area of diagnosis and treatment of cancer in the society.
President of the diagnosis studio, Brig. Gen. Anthony Ukpo (Rtr.) disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after being awarded with a doctorate degree PHD (Honarari Causa) in Law at the 30th University of Calabar Convocation held at the weekend at Abraham O`dia Stadium in Calabar.
Ukpo an ex-milad of Rivers State lauded the management of University of Calabar for doing him honor adding that the diagnosis centre remains one of the best in the Nigeria when it comes to the training of undergraduates in the area of Ultra–mordern Radiotherapy, diagnosis and treatment for cancer.
The former Minister for Information pledged to grow the partnership, especially in area of training, diagnosis and treatment of cancer stressing that he was fully prepared to sponsor some students in law profession in the university.
According to him, Asiukpo diagnostic studio was ever ready to give 10% discount to every university students who enrolled in the centre to receive training on how to ride off cancer the society.
Earlier, University of Calabar Vice Chancellor, Prof. Zana Akpagu stated that it was based on the partnership which the institution entered into with Asiukpo diagnosis centre that paved way for a certain faculty in the University to get accreditation.
Akpagu however maintained that the institution took a decision to honor Brig. Gen. Ukpo (Rtr.), Chairman for Dozie group of companies Sir Chukwu Dozie and Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo Jamaar of Sokoto for their exceptional performance in enterpreneurship,and their numerous contributions to the economic well being of the nation.
According to the VC, management of the University of Calabar resolved to award the degrees to the awardees having immensely contributed in the socio-political development of the nation.
Prominent among dignitaries who were on hand to lend support, and as well, grace the ocassion are the three awardees,Abia, Ikpeazu and Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto states.
Representative of the sultan of Sokoto, Vice Chancellors of other universities among numerous others were also on in attendance.
The Pro-Chancellor of the university, Eng. (Dr.) Emmanuel Inwanyanwu earlier in his speech said his joy is that the vision of the governing council which he chairs was to see the university of Calabar attain the status of a highly rated world class university which has been sustained.
Former Speaker of House of Representatives and now, governor of Sokoto State Alhaji Gwaziri Tambuwal and members and his entourage which he came with from Sokoto state also were in company of one of the awardees, the Jarmaan of Sokoto said he was excited with the honor done him.
The immediate past Speaker of House of Representatives donated N30m to the University as his quota in the support of execution of capital projects curently being executed by the institution.
