The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Rt. Hon John Gaul Lebo has expressed rude shock over the recent but sudden demise of the Chief Judge of the State His Lordship Justice Okoi Ikpi Itam.
He regretted that the erudite justice could not live long enough to see his ingenious initiatives in the judicial arm of the state bear desired fruits, particularly the reforms in the justice system.
“Justice Okoi Ikpi Itam is irreplaceable…in conduct, character, ethics and service. His demise is a very big loss not only to the Yakurr nation and the Judiciary but indeed also to Cross River state.
“Like a star, the Late Justice Okoi Ikpi Itam remains a shining example of a consummate jurist whose life and time will continue to illuminate the paths of the younger generation and inspire them to great heights in the legal and other callings.
“May this type of calamity never befall Cross River again! Rest on my Lord!!”
The Speaker prayed to God to grant the family of the fallen hero and more so, the government of Cross River State the fortitude to bear the great loss.
Justice Okoi Ikpi Itam died Saturday 18th March, 2017 at the age of 63 after a brief illness.
