The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, (FUNAAB) weekend, officially installed the Obong of Calabar, HRM Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu V, as the fourth Chancellor of the institution and conferred him with Honorary Doctor of Science degree NegroidHaven has learnt. Abasi-Otu V took over from HRM Obi (Prof) Joseph Chike Edozien, the Asagba of Asaba.

In his address, the visitor to the institution, President Muhammadu Buhari, who was ably represented by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, congratulated the Obong of Calabar 'on his installation as the 4th substantive Chancellor and the conferment of Honorary Doctor (Honoris Causa) on him', and charged the Monarch to 'build on the past achievement of FONAAB leaders'.

The Monarch, in his remarks, commended President Buhari for his efforts at repositioning the country and appealed to Nigerians to support the change mantra of the incumbent administration, saying that result of recent reforms in all sectors would progressively be very visible in the nearest future. The Obong commended the federal government for its intervention through TETFUND which, he said, has helped in Academic Staff Training and Development (AST&D) and other academic needs of the institution.

He promised to build on the achievement of his predecessors and that he would do everything within his power to ensure the institution sustains its glory as prominent citadel of learning. He tasked graduating students to be good ambassadors of the institution.

Sequel to the inability to formally graduate students after four years, FUNAAB conducted combined convocation ceremonies of successful 7677 students from the 2013/2014, 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 sessions with 203 of that number coming out with First Class degree.
