Int’l Mother Language Day : AKIMOHS Schools marks UN linguistic, cultural and multilingual day

AKIMOHS Schools (Akim Akim Model High School), a private, combined daycare, primary, junior and high school based in Calabar, Cross River will be observing a United Nations recognised day —International Mother Language Day (IMLD) Wednesday 21st February 2018 NegroidHaven has confirmed. 
The venue slated for the event is 140 Calabar Road, Calabar. While commencement time is officially 8AM. Also, AKIMOHS School christens the world day as Mother Tongue Day. Our correspondent has learnt that a Professor of Linguistics Mrs Bassey Okon will be presenting a speech in commemoration of the day. 
Line up of activities has it that there'll be introduction to various ethnic groups and their cultural artefacts, namely, Beti dance, Ibibio's Mkpok Eto, Ebre Dance, Story Telling spree, varieties of dances from northern Cross River state, exclusive displays from the Efiks like Ekpe ino ebot mi, Ata nso Italy, Ikpaya Dance. The highpoint of the event is —the crowning of a New Mother Tongue King and Queen for year 2018. 
According to Wikipedia, International Mother Language Day (IMLD) is a global annual observance held on the 21st day of every February to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and promote multilingualism. It was initially announced by UNESCO on 17 November 1999, it was formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in a resolution establishing 2008 as the International Year of Languages
The theme for this year is : 'Linguistic diversity and multilingualism count for sustainable development'
