Akpo Pius Undie the Executive President of Post Graduate Students Government, PGSG and Utsu Emmanuel A. the President of the Senate of PGSG both of the University of Calabar, Tuesday were suspended and impeached respectively by PGSG Senate for alleged financial and other crimes NEGROIDHAVEN can say authoritatively. Reliable estimates has it that Akpo has misappropriated the whooping sum of one million, nine hundred thousand Naira (N1, 900, 000. 00).
Accordingly, Nyaknno Asuquo and Essien Victor Eyo the Vice President and former Deputy Senate President have been pronounced/elected Acting President and substantive Senate President of PGSG Executive Council and Senate of PGSG respectively.
Suspended Executive President Akpo Pius Undie who is a PhD candidate and lecturer in the Department of Political Science of the same University was said to be suspended for reported financial misappropriation of an estimated sum of N1, 900, 000, disregard of the constitution, perjury, abuse of office, power and arbitrary use and disregard for the property of PGSG. An adhoc committee has been constituted to investigate the allegations against the suspended president.
According to the COMMUNIQUE OF THE 7TH SENATE OF POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS GOVERNMENT (PGSG) issued yesterday and signed by the President of PGSG Senate and Scribe and sighted by our correspondent 'the 7th senate of postgraduate students’ government hereby bring to the notice of the entire postgraduate students of this noble University of Calabar, the University Management, the University community and the entire public of her resolution reached during the senate session of 23rd July, 2019 which was attended by 11 senators and therefore state as follows: That
'A vote of no confidence has been passed on the senate president of the 7th senate of PGSG, senator Utsu, Emmanuel A. by more than two third majority in attendance and he therefore stands impeached.
'The deputy senate president, Senator Victor Essien has been elected by more than two third majority of senators in attendance as the new senate president of the 7th senate and should be recognized as such with all constitutional powers and privileges.
'Mr. Akpo Pius Undie has been suspended by more than two third majority of the senators in attendance while the vice president, Miss Nyaknno Asuquo becomes the acting president of PGSG in line with the provisions of PGSG constitution
'Following the above, we therefore inform the general public and the entire university community that any dealings, business or transaction with either Mr. Akpo Pius Undie or Mr. Utsu Emmanuel A. should be on personal grounds and not as officers of PGSG.
'The 7th senate has commenced investigations on the numerous allegations against Mr. Akpo Pius Undie and will act accordingly in line with the constitution of PGSG.'
The communique deemed the impeached Senate President to have been compromised in that in the course of the Senate session, the senate president abruptly kept silent for as long as 10 minutes without explanations only to be seen to be sending text message with his mobile phone. This action infuriated the deputy senate president, sergeant-at-arm and some senators who didn’t understand his silence.
Suddenly, three unkown men with one David Ukeh, the chief-of-staff to the suspended executive president bagged into the common lounge making confrontations on the senators and observers causing pandemonium while trying to make way to grab the maze. Meanwhile, the senate president attempted to elope with the gavel of the Senate but a senator snatched it away from him as postgraduate students who were at the gallery resisted the attempt by these unkown hoodlums from carryout their evil plans.
