Following the wanton vandalisation and looting of both Government and Private properties resulting from the #EndSars protest that was hijacked across the State, the Commissioner for Youth and Skills Acquisition Hon. Signor Omang Idiege has condemned with horror the mayhem carried out in the State Secretariat of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Calabar, describing it as destructive and anti-development NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed.
Signor Idiege who stated this during an inspection visit to the NYSC State Secretariat expressed bitterness that such level of violence and vandalism was carried out in a place like Cross River State that is known for peace, tranquility and warmth, adding that the NYSC Secretariat is specifically for the youth and as such alarming to see that it was massively looted and properties destroyed, asking if "there is the possibility that youths are against themselves and the institutions that serve them."
Decrying with shock the extent of damage to the Secretariat, Signor Idiege maintained that the manner at which the vandalism was carried out suggests that the hoodlums had in their midst different types of artisans ranging from Mechanics to Electricians and even Panel beaters. The Commissioner however implored the management of the Corps in the State to prepare an inventory of all that is lost, for proper briefing to the State Government, inferring that inspite of all that has happened, His Excellency, Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade is committed to youth development and empowerment, and nothing will deter him.
Also speaking, the Coordinator, Cross River State NYSC, Alhaji Mohammed Nakamba appreciated God that no Staff or Corp Member lost their lives during the vadalism and that the Secretariat was not set ablaze, stating that the wanton destruction is condemnable and heart rendering. He informed that with the huge destruction and vandalisation of the Corpers logde at Akpabuyo, utility vehicles, Ambulance, OBS equipment and a whole lot of other equipment belonging to the State NYSC, camp activities for the coming batch of Corp members will be hampered, soliciting for the assistance of the Federal and State Governments as well as corporate organizations to come to the aid of the scheme to replace all that has been lost to these hoodlums.
On his part, the State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Dan Obo who also condemned the vandalisation of the Secretariat without flinching and describing it as tragic and destructive, averred that the mayhem was not carried out in entirety by Youth of Cross River State, adding that the State has been invaded. He informed that it is unimaginable that the NYCN who has gathered resources to empower youth across the State, will turn back to loot them, informing that "no society is totally devoid of crime but the ability to control crime is what makes society peaceful."
