As against his promise of paying salaries of civil servants in his state, the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade, has glaringly failed to pay the June 2016 salaries.

While it has not been ascertained why His Excellency the Governor couldn't pay his staff, officially there is an ongoing Personnel Auditing.

You would recall that May 2016 salaries, which was supposed to be paid on the 25th of May, was paid on May Day (1st May). To say the least, civil servants of the state are presently transfixed in an economic trilemma as they have spent a month's salary through a near-60 days period (1 May – 27 June).

A renowned social commentator, Barr. Joseph Odok, best captured the confusion among civil servants of the state recently when he said: 'On May 1st salaries were paid, the workers have lived more than a month without salary in this harsh economic times. We understand the month is not ended and there is no justification for demand for another salary. Will you advocate for irregular payment of salaries according to the whims and caprices of the governor or scheduled salaries that will give opportunity for the workers to plan their budget?'.
