Designated communities in Ogoja LGA in Cross River State Northern Senatorial District, particularly Nkumirede and Nkumiborr wards, have been without power supply for the past two years on end NegroidHaven can report authoritatively.
Incidentally, Ogoja LGA is the home of Mr Thomas ‘Timmy Tom’ Udam, Cross River State Honourable Commissioner for Power. Our source has it that the challenge with these two wards which have not been connected to the national grid is basically procedural. The source who pleaded anonymity explained that after the rural electrification of the aforementioned communities there’s been no official communication with PHED to both inform them of the rural electrification and subsequent instruction to link them with the national grid —for two years on end!

His words, ‘You are supposed to carry your documents and register with power holding company saying we have electrified so so communities; Just paper work, it’s mainly procedural: take paper, go to Ministry of Power,… register me, they register you, they hook you up with Port Harcourt office; PHED Port Harcourt the zonal office will hook you up with the national grid… Just paper work from Commissioner to PHED Port Harcourt,… two years!’
Interestingly, the Honourable Member representing Ogoja State Constituency at the 8th Cross River State House of Assembly, Mr Peter Odey; the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Mr Sunday Abang; the Honourable Member representing Ogoja at the House of Representatives, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe
and a host of other prominent politicians are all from Ogoja —and for two years there’s no supply of power.

It will be recalled that Obudu LGA was disconnected from the national grid and the same Commissioner for Darkness sorry Power couldn’t sustainably provide power with his state electrification programme. Timmy Tom must have a penchant for darkness!

NegroidHaven, as at press time, was yet to contact Hon Udam to get his side of the story: more details on this development will be published soon.
