This would have been the best time for Cross River State Government to regain the lost confidence of the people and indeed, make it a merry Christmas with affordable chicken for a considerable number of Cross Riverians.
Yesterday, the media was inundated with photos of the Governor surrounded by fine looking, well dressed birds with attractive prices from the State’s chicken factory. I was pessimistic as a result of the many deceptions we have had to deal with in this administration but with 2% hope, I decided to patronize the factory.
This morning, People traveled from far away CRNorth, CRCentral and even Uyo to join residents of the State’s Capital to buy affordable chicken at the Industrial park but there is a chicken factory without Chicken! I understand that the Governnor is always very excited to score points and shame his critics but, anything worth doing, is worth doing well and I strongly blame the Commissioner for Industry and the Commissioner for Agric for this particular loophole(let me not say more). Let the need to impress not put anyone under unnecessary pressure lest they spoil a great initiative as this.
A source confirmed that the birds we saw in photos yesterday were just 50 birds used to test run the factory. I think the factory can only have the capacity that was advertised yesterday around April 2021 during Easter. Commissioner for Agric who has a poultry farm might attempt some damage control later in the day and of course, we will see it on social media but for now, the crowd is dispersing in disappointment. No chicken!
